The cat was then transferred to another pet hospital in Houtang for further care.

But what made things complicated was that during the conversation with two veterinarians, it became clear that "Wuqi" might be a leopard cub. “I kept searching on Baidu and consulted friends who work outdoors, they all said it looked like a wild leopard.” He felt uneasy about this situation because he might have saved a national second-class protected animal.

However, Wuqi resembled a breed of domestic cat called Bengal Cat as well. That night, Jiang's heart remained uncertain as he repeatedly checked the differences between Bengal Cats and wild leopards. “But Wuqi had black-and-white stripes on its head, looking quite fierce and similar to leopards”…

On the 8th at around noon, Jiang still couldn't decide whether to keep or release Wuqi; therefore he contacted Shenzhen Wildlife Rescue Center via 110 emergency hotline. After photo and video verification by the center’s staffs, it was finally confirmed that "Wuqi" indeed is a national second-class protected animal - Leopard Cub.

That afternoon at 2:30 pm., Shenzhen Wildlife Rescue Center staff arrived at the pet clinic where Wuqi was being held and took over the young leopard from Jiang after issuing an official receipt for receiving wildlife animals.

The receipt recording "leopard type," "second-level protection type," etc., reassured Jiang that his rescue efforts were directed towards protecting wild animals. Though leaving behind something precious wasn’t easy for him,”the best home for such an animal should be in nature.”

Jiang learned that once grown up enough to hunt independently and possess survival skills in nature, Wuqi would be released into suitable natural reserves within Shenzhen city boundaries— possibly even sent to Dapeng New District’s designated reserve area." Hearing there might be opportunities later to see Wudi again but more so hoping it stays safe & healthy growing up is what matters most now."
